A Seventh-wicket venture of 48 from 21 balls between Keemo Paul and Chris Green proved decisive as 2018 runners-up, Guyana Amazon Warriors, made a winning start to their 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign against St Lucia Zouks.
The Warriors had struggled to 98/6 from the 16th over, and their momentum checked through an early wicket each time they seemed to be getting back on course before the 2 all-rounders got to work and changed the entire mood of their innings.
Green Then additional two wickets – including the key among Rahkeem Cornwall — to finish a beautiful all-round screen, while gun leg-spinner Shadab Khan took 3/16 out of his four overs and Romario Shepherd 2/18 since the Warriors ran outside 13-run winners.
Cornwall, The all-rounder, had plundered 36 from just 13 balls, including a huge six over long-leg sandwiched between a pair of fours to encircle Ben Laughlin into the attack, before being immobilized by a quicker, total delivery from Green that thumped to the batsman’s boot on the entire.
Green Had already accounted for Andre McCarthy, Paul carrying the capture at mid-off since Guyana’s batting personalities united in the area, and Shadab had ignored the treacherous Andre Fletcher in his first over.
Cornwall Quick-fire start had obtained the Zouks well before the speed, but they just kept losing wickets each time they seemed poised to take charge of the chase.
That Left vastly expert all-rounder’s Thisara Perera and Daren Sammy collectively for the Zouks understanding they had a protracted tail to shield and still more significant than 70 runs desired.
The Early signs were promising, with Sammy carrying a four and a half from Green’s Final over to dent his characters. However, the boundaries dried up then, and the run-rate started to climb.
